Arran Coastal Way

| Route Options | Route Map | Gallery | Prices and Booking |

mapSituated in the sheltered waters of the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran is the most southerly and the most accessible of all the Scottish islands. Just a short ferry ride across the Firth of Clyde it is a favourite destination for walkers, climbers and cyclists throughout the year.

The Arran Coastal Way is a continuous 65 mile circular exploration of this beautiful island, often described as “Scotland in Miniature”. Lochranza CastleThe north of the island is ruggedly mountainous with its granite peaks and deep glens resembling the best Highland scenery whereas the south is more gentle with low lying farmland, woodland and moorland.
This magnificent walk combines many varied habitats, a fascinating mixture of seaside paths, forest trails, tidal beaches and rolling hills. Although mostly at low level, it includes some occasional rock scrambling and an optional climb over the island’s highest mountain, Goat Fell. All around there are spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde to the east and the Kintyre Peninsula in the west.

Suitable for walkers of average fitness the Arran Coastal Way provides an opportunity to experience the abundant archaeology, history and wildlife of this magical island.

The Arran Coastal Way can offer all types of accommodation including bunkhouses, youth hostels, b&bs, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be noted that not all types are available at every stage and the availability of hostels and bunkhouses is limited.

You will see from our guidelines on Accommodation Prices that we have divided the different types of accommodation into bands. This is to give you an indication of what you are likely to pay. However, you can choose mixture of types, eg a Youth Hotel one evening and a hotel the next. It is designed to be totally flexible and to suit each client's individual needs. All subject to availability of course!
