Hadrian's Wall Path

| Route Options | Route Map | Prices & Booking |

Hadrian's Wall Path is an 84mile(135km) walking trail between the Rivers Tyne in the east and Solway in the west. It follows the line of the historic Roman Wall and the completed National Trail was first opened in 2003.

Constructed on the orders of Emperor Hadrian in the second century AD to protect the northern border of the Roman Empire, the Wall is Europe's largest surviving Roman monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It offers the walker a fascinating combination of ancient history, wild landscapes and traditional village pubs. Explore the remains of the Roman Forts, Milecastles, and Turrets while marvelling at the engineering skills which created this unique construction. There are several informative museums and visitor centres along the Path beginning with the excellent facillity at Segedunum at Wallsend.

In the summer season there is a daily bus service which offers transport to walkers along the route and together with a good train service from Newcastle to Carlisle this allows a wide variety of route options from three to ten days walking.

Hadrian's Wall Path can offer hostels, b&bs, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be noted that not all types are available at each stage.

You will see from our guidelines on Accommodation Prices that we have divided the different types of accommodation into bands. This is to give you an indication of what you are likely to pay. However, you can choose mixture of types, eg a Youth Hostel one evening and a hotel the next. It is designed to be totally flexible and to suit each client's individual needs. All subject to availability of course!
