The Kintyre Way, launched in August
2006, is Scotland’s latest long distance walk.
Easyways will make all the arrangements for your walk from Tarbert harbour in the north, criss-crossing
this beautiful peninsula to the end at Dunaverty on its southern shore.
From its central spine of higher ground there are wonderful views
to the islands of Gigha, Jura and on a clear day, Ireland, in the
west and Arran, in the east. There are woodlands, rolling farmland,
inland lochs, coastal plains, sandy beaches and rocky shores. The
wildlife includes roe deer, grouse, red squirrels, hen harriers
and golden eagles, together with a wide variety of sea birds. Kintyre
is extremely rich in historic and archaeological remains and there
are interpretation boards at key points along the route.
The Kintyre Way is 89miles (142km)
long and would be regarded as of a moderate grade with some rougher
ground particularly on the last section between Machrihanish and
Dunaverty. There are no steep slopes or severe gradients and most
of the climbing is quite gradual but it can be tiring when wet underfoot.
The remoteness of the last section demands caution in bad weather
and possibly compass and map reading skills
Accommodation
The Kintyre Way offers
b&b's, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be
noted that not all types are available at every stage. You will
see from our guidelines on the PRICES and BOOKINGS Page that we
have banded the different types of accommodation. This provides
an indication of what you are likely to pay. And, you can choose
a mixture of types of accommodation each day - a Guest House, one
evening, and a Hotel, the next. It is designed to be totally flexible
and to suit customer’s needs. |
