Note
1 : the Speyside
Way can be walked in either direction. A Buckie start is easier
and saves the hilly Tomintoul Spur and the longer section Grantown
to Aviemore until later in the journey. On the other hand beginning
in Aviemore means the sun is behind you and you are following
the flow of the River Spey to the sea.
Note 2 : after
walking the optional spur from Ballindalloch to Tomintoul a
return transfer is necessary the following morning to continue
the section Ballindalloch - Grantown-on-Spey. Accommodation
in Ballindalloch is limited and it may be necessary to have
a transfer to a nearby location.
Note 3
: spend an extra night in Craigellachie and visit the Speyside
Cooperage. Walk along the old railway track to the interesting
small town of Dufftown with its famous Glenfiddich Distillery,
Balvenie Castle, Mortlake Church and the Dufftown to Keith Railway.
Note 4: due to
the more limited number of walkers on this route there is no
dedicated luggage transfer service. Easyways can organise your
luggage transport on an individual basis.
