West Highland Way Route overview The West Highland Way is 95 miles (152 km) long and was opened in 1980. It became the first officially designated long distance route in Scotland, linking Milngavie to Fort William - from the outskirts of Scotland's largest city to the foot of its highest mountain.

It is a magnificent walk through some of Scotland's most inspirational scenery, passing along the shores of Loch Lomond and over the wild Rannoch Moor and into the heart of the Highlands. It is the most popular and best known footpath in Scotland.

On the West Highland Way - GlencoeThe West Highland Way can offer all types of accommodation including wigwams, bunkhouses, youth hostels, b&bs, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be noted that not all types are available at every stage.

You will see from our guidelines on Accommodation Prices that we have divided the different types of accommodation into bands. This is to give you an indication of what you are likely to pay. However, you can choose mixture of types, eg a Youth Hotel one evening and a hotel the next. It is designed to be totally flexible and to suit each client's individual needs. All subject to availability of course!
