Speyside Way Extension Update

speyside way map extension

Thinking of walking the Speyside Way? The Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland have officially submitted plans to extend the Speyside Way!

EasyWays are very pleased that one of Scotland and the Highland’s most famous walks is being expanded! As well as the West Highland Way, the Speyside Way is one of our most popular routes. With such idyllic views and points of interest, it’s a very exciting time for fans of Scottish long distance walking.

Speyside Way Map Extension – EasyWays

Where is the extension?

The 15 mile extension will be added onto the route just south of Aviemore – this final part of the extension project has been in progress for 13 years and is hoped to be completed by summer 2019. However, the extension from Aviemore to Ardgeal (which is near Loch Insh has already been completed!)

Since the extension from Buckie to Aviemore was completed in 2000, the current route is 65 miles. Though, with this further expansion, the Speyside Way map route will span 80-miles. Still beginning Buckie but now ending in Newtonmore. This new route will provide a link between the Moray coast and the Cairngorms National Park!

Cairngorms National Park

Extending the route will allow EasyWays walkers to explore Cairngorms National Park!

Bringing the Speyside Way into the Cairngorms National Park will increase the likelihood of people visiting the area on foot and bike. Extending the route will enable people to easily reach popular tourist attractions like Loch Insh Watersports, the National Nature Reserve and the Highland Folk Museum.

Included in the new part of the route are some steep hills and sharp corners so be careful. This path is open for use by cyclists and horse riders as well as walkers. Of course, for EasyWays walkers we will inform you when the whole expansion is complete. We are just as excited as you are! We will also develop our walking packages to fit in with the extension and provide additional support and advice when needed.

At EasyWays we always like to inform our walkers of route updates as and when. Want to know more about the Speyside Way? Take a look at our last post for more info.
